This is the first time that Nagaland is witnessing the victory of so many political parties in the state assembly elections. LJP (Ram Vilas) and RPI (Athawale) are newbies in the state politics.
The Assam government on Wednesday constituted a one-man inquiry committee headed by the Additional Chief Secretary P P Verma to probe into the incident of mob assault on Rumi Nath, ruling Congress MLA of Borkhola LAC, in South Assam, on the night of June 29 last inside a hotel at Karimganj town. The committee will submit its report within 15 days.
Major parties have lined up a long list of star campaigners to woo voters in Assam where assembly polls are scheduled for April 4 and 11. The ruling Congress, bidding for return to power for the third consecutive term, has a long list of prominent persons, including Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and United Progressive Alliance chairperson Sonia Gandhi, to campaign for the party.
